Ulu Cliffhouse
Clifftop pool club above Padang-Padang with surf-and-sunset DNA, daybeds, and a members' lounge tied to The Clubhouse hotel.
Ulu Cliffhouse is the surf-and-sunset clifftop venue on the Bukit — a pool club, restaurant and music room perched on the limestone above Padang-Padang, with daybeds aimed straight at the western horizon and a programming calendar built around golden-hour DJ sets. It sits a short walk from some of the most photographed surf in Indonesia, and the whole experience is engineered around that view.
The setting
The venue is carved into the cliffs of Pecatu, just up the road from the Padang-Padang and Suluban beach access points and within sight of the Uluwatu lineup. The layout steps down the cliff: a main pool deck with daybeds and sunbeds along the edge, a restaurant under a shaded open-fire kitchen pavilion, and an Ocean Deck bar dropped halfway down the cliff face for a closer-to-the-water perch. The orientation is due west, so the entire property is a sunset amphitheatre — the pool, the daybeds, the bar, the restaurant tables all face the same drop into the Indian Ocean.
Programming and music
The DNA here is daytime-into-sunset rather than late-night club. The in-house music team curates a rolling soundtrack across the day — relaxed selectors through lunch, building tempo through the afternoon, peak energy at sundown — with a rotating cast of resident and guest DJs and occasional live acts. Sunday is the marquee day, with the Cliffside Sessions format pulling a bigger crowd in for daytime DJs, family-friendly hours earlier in the day, and a longer sundown set. Always check the official site or Instagram for the week’s lineup before you build your day around a specific name.
F&B and the day-bed model
Food is coastal Mediterranean out of an open-fire kitchen, with a raw bar leaning on ceviches, tiraditos and crudo, plus shared mains and a substantial cocktail and wine programme through the main bar. The economic model is the daybed: pool-deck daybeds and sunbeds are reservable in advance through the venue, almost always with a minimum spend that scales up on weekends and event days. Walk-ins can eat at the restaurant or grab a bar seat without committing to a bed, which makes Ulu Cliffhouse usable as a sunset dinner stop as well as a full-day pool club.
Members vs walk-ins
Unlike Savaya next door, Ulu Cliffhouse runs a layered access model. The main pool deck and restaurant are open to the public with reservations, but there is also a Members’ Lounge tied to The Clubhouse at Ulu — the adjacent boutique hotel — which is reserved for hotel guests and members. In practice that means most visitors will experience Ulu as a walk-in pool-and-dining venue; the members layer is a quieter overlay for hotel guests rather than a velvet rope on the main floor.
Getting there, dress, when to go
The venue is on Jalan Labuansait in Pecatu, the same road that funnels traffic into Padang-Padang and Uluwatu surf — from Canggu or Seminyak, budget 60–90 minutes by car at peak; from Bingin, Uluwatu or the Bukit hotels it is a short ride. There is on-site parking and the staff handle drop-offs, but as with the rest of the Bukit, lock in your ride home before you arrive — late-night Grab and Gojek availability up here is patchy. Dress is beach-club-smart: swimwear is fine around the pool, swap into something dry for dinner. Aim to land by mid-afternoon to get the daybed-and-sunset arc; come for Sunday if you want the music programming at its loudest, or a weekday if you want the same view with a quieter deck.
