Galungan Temple Procession

Monday · 11 May 2026 · 00:00 WITA

Late-afternoon Galungan procession at Denpasar's main civic temple — penjor-lined streets, ceremonial dress, open to respectful visitors.

Galungan marks the victory of dharma over adharma in the Balinese Hindu calendar and is one of the most visible public ceremonies on the island. Pura Jagatnatha, the main civic temple in Denpasar, hosts a late-afternoon procession that draws families from across the city.

Visitors are welcome with appropriate dress (sarong and sash, both available for rent at the entrance) and respectful behaviour — stand at the rear of seated worshippers, no flash photography during prayer.

What to expect

  • Major civic temple, central to Denpasar
  • Free to attend, sarong rental at the gate
  • Stand behind worshippers; no flash during prayer
  • Penjor-lined approach — best photo light around 5pm
